When you book a senior photo session with Mr+Mrs Drew Photography you are booking me! I’m a photographer who specializes in senior portraits and in posing seniors. I want you to learn these 3 easy poses for seniors.
But….if you want a leg up on posing so you can be sure you are ready for your senior photos this post is for you.
Keep reading to learn the 3 easy poses to try during your senior photos! These poses are perfect for when you want to have a friend take a couple insta worthy pics of you. Don’t worry, I have an entire catalog of poses and prompts that we use throughout your session. These are just 3 to get you started!
This is an great pose if you feel awkward just standing and looking at the camera. Find a location that has a wall, a fence or a tree to lean against or on. You can do a variety of leaning poses depending on what you have to lean on.
Try leaning your back against the fence and rest you arm(s) on it if it’s at the right height. You can also stand with the fence in front of you and rest your arms on it, leaning towards the camera.
You can also stand sideways in relation to the fence and rest you arm on the fence. Play around with crossing your legs or pointing one leg out from the fence.
If it’s a wall you can lean your back up against the wall. Angle your feet out away from the wall or put one leg up on the wall and bend you knee. You can also lean on the wall sideways facing the camera with your arm up on the wall or down.
This is another pose that is great if just standing and looking at the camera feels awkward. You can find lots of different locations for sitting poses. Sitting on a bench or seat! Sitting on the curb on the side of the street or simply sitting down in the grass.
When sitting on a chair or bench I always love the pose of crossing you legs. Then rest your arms on your knee and lean towards the camera. Another option is resting your arms on both your knees and leaning forward. This is a great pose for both guys and girls!
Sitting on the ground you can try the classic crossing your legs. Another fave of mine is putting one leg with your knee up and having the other underneath on the ground. You can see examples of this in the photos above.
On a curb location you can have your legs together, knees towards chest and hugging them. Another option is one leg up and one leg straight, you can play around with where you place your hands.
This is one of my favorites to get relaxed and natural photos of my seniors! The trick with this one is you might have to do it a few times to get the shot. Don’t be afraid to do it several times and take a ton of photos. You want to make sure you get a grid worthy shot for instagram!
Walking poses are great because you are moving so you capture natural moments while you are moving. You can do a few different walking poses. You can walk towards the camera or walk away from the camera and look over your shoulder. Another option is to walk across the scene, parallel to the camera.
Play around with how you move your arms while walking. Try looking away from the camera for more variety. Don’t be afraid to really swing your arms in an exaggerated way or play with your hair.
In reality the 3 poses listed above are actually way more then just 3 senior photo poses. Don’t forget that when you are posing for photos make sure you are doing small changes to your initial pose. You’ll get lots of variety to this way. Moving your arms and legs around will give you lots of different images!
I can’t wait to photograph your senior photos! One of the best things about booking a session with me is you don’t have to remember all of this. I’ll help show and explain these 3 easy poses for your senior photos! I’ll make sure we do all of them (and even more!)
