This sweet little family came to Chelmsford for a cake smash session a couple weeks ago. Before we started smashing cakes we made sure to take some family portraits (it’s hard to be take those after the birthday girl is covered in frosting!) Even though it was a cake smash session and the focus was on the birthday girl, I think it’s important to snap a couple family portraits as well as portraits of the kids together too. My oldest, Prue, tagged along to help me set up for the session and ended up playing with the other camera some. I ended up keeping a couple of her images in the gallery (I’ll let you know which ones). She’s just learning how to use the camera, her images were a little underexposed, but since she was shooting RAW I was able to save them. I need to take her out and have her practice shooting so she can really master shooting manual. Can you even handle that sweet smile? I love kids laughing so I naturally I just love this image of Ella. I don’t know what we said or did that was so funny. Maybe Prue was off being silly next to me? The image below needs to be a large print, right? Then it was time for some portraits of the girls individually. First up the birthday girl. Oh Miss Cora, how I love your scrunchy face smile. I think it’s so cute, scroll down and let me know you feel the same way. Then we took some of big sister, Ella, all by herself. I can’t believe it was just a couple years ago that we were shooting her first birthday session. Ella’s glasses are the perfect shade of raspberry pink and I am a little jealous of them! Then we took a couple photos with Mom & Dad as well as Grandma who was down visiting. It was almost cake time Cora got changed into a better cake smashing outfit and it was go time. We took some portraits before we dove into cake smashing time. (the image below was shot by Prue)Finally we were ready to give Cora the cake. She was super hesitant about diving into the cake. It’s so funny to see how differently kids react to a cake being put in front of them. She didn’t know what to do, so Mom stepped in and helped by giving her a little taste of the frosting. (The next two images are by Prue) Can you even handle that little tongue sticking out in the second one? The funny thing with this image, is she totally put her toes in the cake on accident and didn’t know what to do about it after it happened. It was so funny. When Cora wasn’t really into eating the cake, we let Ella jump into help. Ella thought this was the best thing ever Look that that smile on her face. She was so excited to be helping dive into the cake with her hands. Cora was inspired by Ella and started to really eat some of the cake, so we had Ella jump out for a few more photos. She was off camera right still munching away on the cake and frosting all over her hands & then it was time to clean her up. While Cora was getting cleaned up Prue entertained Ella with some bubbles and who doesn’t love photos of little kids playing with bubbles. I had to take a few shots! I’m so happy I was able to photograph such a fun moment for this sweet family. They are so sweet and I love seeing the girls grow. If you have a sweetie who will be celebrating their first birthday soon get in touch to schedule their cake smash sessions. They are such a fun way to celebrate your baby turning one!
