Our good friend Kate is also a wedding photographer. You tend to make friends with people in the business (though we’ve been friends with Kate for years now, before we shot weddings) She was our wedding photographer. It’s great to have someone to talk with you understand what Andrew & I do. I second shot this wedding with Kate at the beginning of July.
It was a toasty warm day when Kate & I headed up to the Northshore to Tasha’s house. This is where most of the family & the girls in the bridal party were getting ready. We then headed to St. Mary’s Church in Lynn where we had a full mass (it’s crazy how much time you have to shoot when it’s a full mass!) We powered through the portraits because it was very warm & then headed to the reception location at the Boston Marriot in Peabody. The wedding reception was unlike any other that I’ve been to or shot. The dance floor was packed all night long, it was like we were in a club. At times Kate & I had to really work it to get around the crowd that was trying to see the events (you’ll see during the bouquet toss & the garter toss). Tasha & Thierry really like to have a good time with their families & friends, it clearly showed.
I look forward to other Second Shooting opportunities with Kate (and other photographers). You can learn so much by second shooting. It’s great to see the different styles & approaches.
Love this shoe shot. The bedroom they were getting ready in had these skylights that created these interesting shapes of light.
This little boy didn’t want to be in any of the photos! Kate & I had to be covert in order to get him in any shots 🙂 I’m glad I snagged this one.
Out in the backyard of their house. There was this great backdrop of the rocks & plants. It also created some shade for us to shoot in!
I love this shot of the flower girls coming down the aisle. The girls were adorable & did a great job 🙂 (as you can see from the photo below)
It took awhile for this flower girl to warm up to Kate & I. She didn’t want to have anything to do with us and would just stare at us. While the big eyed stares are great I’m glad she warmed up at the reception and would talk to me. She is super cute 🙂
Tasha’s Dad was so proud & happy to be walking her down the aisle. This is a really sweet moment & I’m happy I was able to capture it.
Church ceremonies provide such a pretty backdrop for the wedding ceremony. It’s sometimes difficult because they can be a little dark. My suggestion to Brides is to consider what lighting options your ceremony location has. There were other lights in the church that could have been turned on & would have helped illuminate the church more, but for some reason they weren’t on. I don’t like shooting a ceremony with a flash, but in this situation we had to use them occasionally to get the shots.
This photo only shows a small number of the “paparazzi” that Kate & I had to contend with. It truly felt like a paparazzi moment. Tasha & Thierry had no choice but to stop at the end of the aisle & pose for a few photos.
Kate was working with the groomsmen & I was able to nab the light hitting Tasha’s face perfectly. I love these candid moments.
The guys were all about hamming it up for the photos.
The kids didn’t want to be a part of the bridal party photo. We encouraged and asked them to come join everyone, but they held their ground. In this case, I always think it’s better to respect what the kids want to do. You don’t want to have the kids screaming and crying in the photo anyway. Just let them play & enjoy themselves.
Love this shot of them in front of the church!
The groom busted out an entire routine for the garter toss. He had the groomsmen help him out holding the umbrella (a la P. Diddy) It was a great show & the guests loved every moment of it.
Can you even handle the crowd of people for the bouquet toss. This was the first attempt. They did a second toss as well (there was so much commotion, I can’t even tell you why they did it a second time)
Then it was time for dance party & I mean DANCE PARTY! Part of me wanted to put the camera down and get in on it & then another part of me couldn’t believe all the gems I was getting & didn’t want to stop shooting. These people really know how to celebrate!
Love this tight shot & the expression on the little boys face in the middle.
I grabbed this last shot of all the girls together. Tasha had changed into her super cute mini dress. The Marriott had a courtyard right off the ballroom we were in, so we were able to easily go outside & grab this shot!
Thanks for letting me come along & shot this wedding with you Kate! I had a blast 🙂
