Fair warning, this is going to be a long blog post! I tried to cut it down, but just couldn’t. I’ve known the bride Amy for about 20 years since she was the annoying little sister of my best friend…I say annoying in the most loving way. I was her RA when we both attended Salem State where I felt like I needed to keep an eye on her like a big sister. I’ve watched her grow up and become the strong & amazing woman that she is and I’m so happy she found an equally amazing partner in Matt. We were so happy to be a part of Amy and Matt’s wedding day. It doesn’t feel like work when you’re spending it with all your friends celebrating two people you love.
Drew started the day with the guys at a nearby hotel and after getting ready they headed over to the wedding venue, Blue Ocean Event Center. I met up with Amy & her bridesmaids at the venue and where they finished getting ready.
Before heading out for the first look I took advantage of the gorgeous window light in the bridal suite to take some portraits of Amy.
Amy’s parents just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary yesterday on May 23rd. They are a great example of a loving and happy marriage.
It was cold but not rainy so we ventured to the beach for the first look. It felt chilly when you walked outside, but once you stepped around the building onto the open beach, it was downright freezing. We powered through the first look and portraits on the beach as quickly as we could! Amy and Matt were troopers!
A happy accident with the missed focus below…I’m loving these mistakes lately. The rest of the wedding party met us outside for portraits on the beach and then we headed to the arcade for a chance to warm up and some more portraits.
Everyone got some quarters and it was time for a some skeeball! Best part of having a oceanside wedding if you ask me! Amy also wanted to get in a racing game since it’s something that her and Matt love to play.
Next we took them outside for some portraits in front of the arcade. We love all the fun colors the arcade adds as a backdrop. A nice mix to the beach photos.
Then we made our way back to the venue and took some more portraits inside. You can’t go wrong with all the amazing window light the Blue Ocean Event Center has. They also have a fun little lounge area set up outside the main event room that was perfect for portraits.
The two images below are some of my favorite from the day! I just love them!!
Right before we headed to the ceremony we snagged a couple photos of Amy with her sister Alicia. I had to jump in a few to make sure I made it in some photos of the day. To think I’ve been friends with these two amazing ladies for so long makes my heart so happy.
Amy’s sister officiated the wedding, making it even more special and guaranteeing I cried during the ceremony. What really hit me during Amy and Matt’s vows was they both included “I love you and I like you” a quote from Parks and Rec. It pushed me right over the edge and the tears started. Thankfully my girl Caroline was seated next to the aisle and was able to pass my a tissue so I could keep shooting.
Instead of a unity candle or a sand ceremony Amy and Matt did something that is so them, they built a heart out of legos together. It was the perfect symbol of their dedication to each other and working together.
They reception room was decorated beautifully with the tables named for tv shows that Matt and Amy love. We were seated at the Parks and Rec table. It’s one of Drew’s favorite shows, so it was perfect for us. Their cake topper was an adorable lego bride and groom. Amy and Matt also crafted a C.A.R.D.I.S (short for Cards and Related Documents in Storage) for their cards to show their love for Dr. Who and the TARDIS.
After all the formalities of the reception, it was time to party! Everyone had an amazing time and the dance floor was full all night long.
Here’s a highlights video of some of the fun that was had in the FunBooth
